Material Scientist & Material Scout
Dr.-Ing. Christoph Konetschny studied Material Science at the Technical University of Darmstadt, , . His studies focused on metallurgy, ceramics and glass, plastics, composites, surface technology, corrosion and tribology as well as fundamentals of manufacturing technology. Prior to his studies, Dr.-Ing. Christoph Konetschny successfully concluded a vocational training as a chemical laboratory assistant at Merck KGaA in Darmstadt.

Dr.-Ing. Christoph Konetschny started his independent professional activity in 2000 with the foundation of Materialsgate – Büro für Materialberatung. His core competences include consulting and research services to identify suitable structural and functional materials, as well as coatings and surfaces. The results of this work are tailored property profiles which support the implementation of new or optimized applications in all industrial and creative sectors. Since the foundation of Materialsgate, Dr.-Ing. Konetschny has assisted several hundred clients in Germany and abroad with his investigations, material scouting and consulting services.
Dr.-Ing. Christoph Konetschny has experience as a juror of material and design awards, cooperates with several institutions and universities in the field of basic and advanced technical training and develops formats and presentation concepts for various publishers, exhibition and conference organizers. Dr.-Ing. Christoph Konetschny also assists companies with the strategic placement and the market launch of new materials and technologies.
Dr.-Ing. Christoph Konetschny lives and works in the southern Munich area near to the lakes and mountains, he is married and has a curious seven-year-old son. In his spare time, Dr.-Ing. Christoph Konetschny indulges in literature, traveling and Jazz music and loves Mediterranean cuisine and its wines.
 His diploma thesis dealt with the characterization of surface properties of metallic biomaterials and was prepared as part of an industrial project with Aesculap AG (title of the diploma thesis: “Einfluss der Ionenimplantation auf das Polarisationsverhalten einer Titanlegierung”, ISBN-10: 383241889X, supervised by Prof. Dr. Exner, TU Darmstadt, Department of Physical Metallurgy, 1995 – overall diploma grade: very good).
 He earned his doctorate in the field of manufacturing and characterization of innovative hard materials in cooperation with De Beers Industrial Diamond Division LTD, South Africa (title of the dissertation: “Hartstoffhaltige Si-C-N-Keramiken aus Polysilazanen”, ISBN-10: 3826549767, supervised by Prof. Dr. Riedel, TU Darmstadt, Department of Disperse Solids, 1999 – overall doctorate grade: very good).
