Filaments— For a long-time functionality and high quality

Soft or hard, fine or strong—Evonik offers the right material for manufacturing filaments.
Polyamide 612 of the VESTAMID® D brand are easily processible into various bristle qualities, allow a variety of dimensional modifications, and are easy to color. Specific viscosity adjustments allow monofilaments of varying thicknesses to be produced efficiently. The balanced mechanical properties, low water absorption, and low abrasion of filaments made of VESTAMID® D make it perfect for toothbrush bristles as well as industrial applications such as abrasive filaments or high-tech filter fabrics. Their superior resilience compared to other monofilament materials ensures among others that the finished bristles do not lose their shape.

Evonik’s biobased grade VESTAMID® Terra can be melt spun to create a wide variety of different fiber and filaments products. Each of the polyamides has been and can be adjusted to meet the thermal spinning processing parameters. Depending on the material chosen, the filaments can provide unique technical and sustainable solutions.

In general, the lower water uptake, high chemical resistance and slightly reduced melting point of the VESTAMID® Terra products compared to the short-chain polyamides will lead to lower energy demands in the spinning process, heightened stain resistance and an improved color fastness, as well as an softer touch of the fibers without compromising mechanical properties.

The P84® fibre is a polyimide based fibre with a typical textile character. Polyimides are known to be used in a wide range of operating temperatures starting from cryogenic applications and ending at high temperature applications at the limits of polymer based materials. The thermal stability is based on the aromatic backbone of the polymer. The fibres do not melt. Despite their halogen free structure they exhibit a high LOI of 38%, which means the P84® fibres are classified as non flammable. P84® fibres have a rather unique cross section offering the highest specific surface of all available standard textile fibres.
