Merck’s Patinal®-portfolio stands for quality – for more than 30 years.

There are more than 40 substances to choose from, such as metal-fluorides, -oxides, -sulfides or -selenides, for the tailored manufacturing of optical coatings by physical vapor deposition (PVD). In this portfolio you can find the fitting material for your optical coating needs, whether in in the area of ultraviolet, visible light or deep infrared optics. Thanks to our long experience we achieve a very high batch-to-batch reproducibility resulting in a high process stability, outstanding process control and high optical coating yield. The high purity of our materials prevents unwanted absorption and thus leads to high quality coatings suitable for the most demanding applications, for instance in high power laser optics. Our mixed oxides with either a low, medium or high refractive index enable a low residual film stress which is favorable for applications in polymer lens based optics. We also offer ready-to-use tablets for PVD-application to protect your coating with a water and dirt repelling layer as used as the final coating on lenses for cameras in the automotive industry.

Typical applications of our Patinal®-materials are:

- Anti-reflection coatings in laser optics, camera systems or ophthalmics
- Optical filters and mirrors (dichroic filters, selective mirrors)
- UV-coatings for lasers used in medical or spectroscopic applications
- IR-coatings for night vision, CO2-lasers or distance control
- Water repellant coatings for harsh environments
